Summary

In a world where cursed spirits feed on unsuspecting humans, fragments of the legendary and feared demon Ryomen Sukuna were lost and scattered about。 Should any demon consume Sukuna’s body parts, the power they gain could destroy the world as we know it。 Fortunately, there exists a mysterious school of Jujutsu Sorcerers who exist to protect the precarious existence of the living from the supernatural!

Yuta Okkotsu is a nervous high school student who is suffering from a serious problem—his childhood friend Rika has turned into a curse and won't leave him alone。 Since Rika is no ordinary curse, his plight is noticed by Satoru Gojo, a teacher at Jujutsu High, a school where fledgling exorcists learn how to combat curses。 Gojo convinces Yuta to enroll, but can he learn enough in time to confront the curse that haunts him?

Jujutsu Kaisen is, overall, a really good shounen。The author knows perfectly how to use the story-telling elements of this genre that have been previously established by previous authors。 The art is great, the fights are fun and captivating and it easily gets you hyped。 However, Jujutsu Kaisen's weak point for me as always been it's establishment on new themes to the series。This prequel volume was fun and had its great moments, but it didn't have any type of setup or concept that was established Jujutsu Kaisen is, overall, a really good shounen。The author knows perfectly how to use the story-telling elements of this genre that have been previously established by previous authors。 The art is great, the fights are fun and captivating and it easily gets you hyped。 However, Jujutsu Kaisen's weak point for me as always been it's establishment on new themes to the series。This prequel volume was fun and had its great moments, but it didn't have any type of setup or concept that was established from the very first chapter。 Things just kinda。。。 Happened。The main character's personality and backstory were great and had so much potential, but it spends too much time that in many ways just feels like your typical shounen filler。 It's only halfway through the volume that we finally get into the actual main fight with the main villain。 And when we finally do, it only lasts for 3 to 2 chapters。It probably would've worked MUCH better if instead of being a normal volume, it would have been a slightly longer one-shot type of format。 That way we had more time to truly flesh out all the events and the characters。It did had it's great, hype moments that Jujutsu Kaisen is so great at。 But those weak parts were clearly there and they were quite big。Hopefully, the movie adaptation will manage to put some more impact and excitement into this。 。。。more

I began reading this manga with a mindset of “I need to practice my Spanish and expand my vocabulary”, using my current hyper fixation on jujutsu kaisen as a motivation。 Little did I know that I’ll achieve not only that but be emotionally destroyed on the way。 I love my boy Yuta and I can’t wait now for the upcoming movie。 This story was so much different from the main one but I appreciated getting to know the characters better and be introduced to the ones I am yet to meet in the anime。

Content warnings: Body horror, loss of a significant otherI recognize this was published a few years after the first volume, but this is where I started with the story of jujutsu sorcerers and the curses they exorcise。Keeping true to prequel form, this volume follows the older students when they were first years。 A new kid, Yuta Okkotsu, enrolls in the academy with some serious baggage: his girlfriend had been brought back in the form of a powerful Queen of Curses。The monster fights in this one Content warnings: Body horror, loss of a significant otherI recognize this was published a few years after the first volume, but this is where I started with the story of jujutsu sorcerers and the curses they exorcise。Keeping true to prequel form, this volume follows the older students when they were first years。 A new kid, Yuta Okkotsu, enrolls in the academy with some serious baggage: his girlfriend had been brought back in the form of a powerful Queen of Curses。The monster fights in this one are fun。 The demon designs are inventive, with clearly delineated powers。 There’s a sense of horror-type fear, rather than just nerves informed strictly by the world-building。The characters also leaped off the page。 I was particularly endeared to Maki and Yuta, but thoroughly creeped out by Toge。 I did enjoy the tenderness that developed between them as Yuta grew to trust his classmates。The resolution was bittersweet, but it was a great introduction to the tone of the series, and I’m fully onboard with this delightful blend of shonen and horror。 。。。more

I don't get the hype yet but I have so many questions??? I'm gonna read the rest of them and revisit the ranking because Denise said it was hype, and in their own words, they are "never wrong"。 I don't get the hype yet but I have so many questions???

I started watching this on Crunchy Roll and since there are only about 20 episodes right now I figured why not read it too! This is a prequel of the third years in their first year of Jujutsu High and it definitely provides more background you dont get right away about these characters and how their curse sorcery works。 So fun, dark, good quality manga! I used Viz manga to read it on my phone

After watching what's available of the anime, I decided to read this prototype/prequel manga which follows a character I have yet to meet on-screen。 While I enjoyed the story, and the additional background info provided on certain characters, I find myself with more questions than answers。 I think the story could have been more fleshed out if it were slightly longer, but I get that initial manga such as this are more of an audience test, rather than fully completed stories。 Overall though, a sol After watching what's available of the anime, I decided to read this prototype/prequel manga which follows a character I have yet to meet on-screen。 While I enjoyed the story, and the additional background info provided on certain characters, I find myself with more questions than answers。 I think the story could have been more fleshed out if it were slightly longer, but I get that initial manga such as this are more of an audience test, rather than fully completed stories。 Overall though, a solid-enough read for any Jujutsu fan。 。。。more
